Driving Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Liberia.
TIO has successfully strengthened partnerships with national and international financial institutions, development organizations, and private investors to bolster Liberiaβs economic recovery and long-term growth. Liberia offers significant opportunities across multiple sectors, driven by abundant natural resources, a young workforce, strategic Atlantic access, and a government committed to economic reform and investment promotion
Where to start?
Liberia has the potential to develop a distinctive ecotourism sector centered on its forests, coastline, wildlife, rivers and cultural heritage. With extensive areas of tropical rainforest, a long Atlantic coastline and a number of relatively undeveloped natural destinations, the country offers opportunities for investors to develop low-impact resorts, eco-lodges, nature-based experiences, guided wildlife tourism, adventure activities and community-led tourism. The opportunity is particularly suited to sustainable development models that protect natural ecosystems while generating income and employment for surrounding communities like:
Coastal and Beach Tourism: Liberiaβs Atlantic coastline provides opportunities for boutique beach resorts, eco-lodges, wellness retreats, watersports and destination experiences. Beaches around Robertsport, Buchanan, Monrovia and Grand Cape Mount County could support different forms of coastal tourism, from surf and adventure tourism to higher-end leisure and wellness developments. Robertsport in particular has potential to develop around its beaches, surfing and distinctive coastal landscape.
Tourism
Liberiaβs agriculture sector offers significant opportunities for investors across commercial farming, agro-processing, food production and export-oriented value chains. The country has abundant arable land, favourable climatic conditions, substantial water resources and a growing domestic and regional market for food and agricultural products.
Priority opportunities include
Rice, cocoa, coffee, rubber, oil palm, cassava, horticulture and livestock, alongside investment in storage, processing, packaging and logistics.
Investors can also benefit from opportunities to develop integrated agricultural value chains that create local employment while increasing the value of Liberian products before export. Key considerations include access to land, infrastructure, supply-chain development, access to finance and the availability of skilled agricultural labour β making partnerships with local producers and communities an important part of sustainable investment.
